Regina Schween has been painting using mainly oil on canvas for almost 40 years. She studied at art school in Hamburg but dropped her studies after realising she would learn nothing new there. Since then she has lived working as a painter in various places in N. Germany. She has had many local exhibitions in galleries and museums in the three most northerly German states and was semifinalist in various international competitions.
In 2016 Regina won a residency in Andalucia, Spain which was pivotal for her life both as an artist as well as privately. It was in Andalucia that she developed her motional oil paintings from her sketches which flow even today into her portraits and figural paintings. Regina says that the light and the minimal movements of her models while painting her portraits are that which gives them their three dimensional effect. She paints impasto to intensify the 3D. Her impasto painting allows also to fortify volume and depth in her pictures by way of utilising complementary contrasts.
Regina Schween malt seit fast 40 Jahren hauptsächlich mit Öl auf Leinwand. Sie studierte an einer Kunstschule in Hamburg, brach ihr Studium jedoch ab, nachdem sie feststellte, dass sie dort nichts Neues lernen würde. Seitdem lebt und arbeitet sie als Malerin an verschiedenen Orten in Norddeutschland. Sie hatte viele regionale Ausstellungen in Galerien und Museen in den drei nördlichsten Bundesländern und war Halbfinalistin bei verschiedenen internationalen Wettbewerben.
Im Jahr 2016 gewann Regina eine Residenz (Künstlerstipendium) in Andalusien, Spanien, was sowohl für ihr Leben als Künstlerin als auch privat von zentraler Bedeutung war. In Andalusien entwickelte sie aus ihren Skizzen ihre bewegungsorientierten Ölgemälde, die bis heute in ihre Porträts und figürlichen Bilder einfließen. Regina sagt, dass das Licht und die minimalen Bewegungen ihrer Modelle beim Malen ihrer Porträts das sind, was ihnen ihre dreidimensionale Wirkung verleiht. Sie malt in Impasto-Technik, um den 3D-Effekt zu verstärken. Ihre Impasto-Malerei ermöglicht es zudem, Volumen und Tiefe in ihren Bildern durch den Einsatz von Komplementärkontrasten zu festigen.
